FESTIVE DINNER -  Dec 16, 2025

BINGO NIGHT - Nov 26, 2025

Everyone was a Winner at Bingo!

Yes, it’s true. Everyone got to yell out “Bingo” and win a prize at our extremely lively Bingo Game in November. Given the buzz and chatter in the room, it is safe to say that a wonderful time was had by all. It was a very full house, and we collected $396 towards building our next toilet in Cambodia. We hope to schedule our next Bingo game sometime during the winter - stay tuned - you’ll want to register early as it always fills quickly and space is unfortunately limited. Please save your unwanted treasures and gifts for the prize table.

MUSEUM OF TORONTO TOUR - Nov 13, 2025

On November 13, over 20 members came to the Museum of Toronto to see the fabulous exhibit The 52 - Women Who Transformed Toronto. The museum is located at 401 Richmond St, a heritage building turned unto an arts and culture hub. It is a small space, but packed with videos, images and artifacts. Follow this link to watch the short videos made about each of these women. We highly recommend this exhibit.

Our club is known for its many Susans, but at coffee afterwards, our three Pamelas won the name game.

ST. LAWRENCE MARKET WALK - Nov 6, 2025

On November 6th, we had a great turnout (and favourable weather) for our walk in the St Lawrence Market area, focused on Toronto history and architecture. A highlight was the dog fountain in Berzy Park.

Both Heritage Toronto and the Toronto Society of Architects offer wonderful tours for a nominal fee, typically June to September.

TRAVEL NIGHT - Oct 27, 2025

Who knew that the Okavango Delta has been shaped by three eco-engineers; termites, hippos and elephants. For the past 50 million years, termites have created 150,000 islands that populate this inland oasis.

Who knew that the markings on every giraffe are unique? Imagine!

Who knew that England in February IS a travel destination? :)

We learned all that AND more at our Travel Night in October. Thank you to Marianne, Jocelyn and Susan for taking us on their adventures.

The presentation notes are attached here.

INTERNATIONAL DINING -OCT 22, 2025

On October 22nd, International Dining participants enjoyed an evening at Alebrije, located at 119 Harbord Street, which specializes in elevated Mexican cuisine and craft cocktails. The food was excellent and the service superb.

SPEAKER - DONNA JEAN      Oct 20, 2025

On October 20, UWC’s speaker series featured Donna Jean Mackinnon, former reporter, columnist and features’ writer for the Toronto Star, and author of the book, “Newsgirls: Gutsy Pioneers in Canada’s Newsrooms”.

During her 21 years at the Star, Donna Jean collected anecdotes about the women writers working in the “Golden Age” of the newspaper industry and then used her formidable journalism and research skills to bring these stories together in her book. Donna Jean’s talk, accompanied by many marvellous photographs from the era, introduced us to some of the women reporters who appear in her book.

Donna Jean’s presentation was a fascinating look into the lives and experiences of the women who forged places for themselves in the Golden Age of Canada’s newspapers.

SPEAKER - ROSALIND PEPALL
Sept 2025

On September 15, UWC held a well-attended buffet dinner for members in the Wedgewood Dining Room of the Faculty Club with guest speaker Rosalind Pepall, former Senior Curator of Decorative Arts at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and author of “Talking to a Portrait: Tales of an Art Curator”. Roslind’s book is a collection of wide-ranging stories drawn from her experiences at the MMFA. In her presentation Rosalind took us through some of the highlights, illustrating her talk with colourful slides of paintings, architecture and decorative design featured in the book. Her stories were variously surprising, funny, poignant and awe-inspiring.

It was a memorable event for UWC to kick off its fall season!

PATIO NIGHTS - Summer 2025
